Tasmania is a cool climate island situated to the south east of Australia. Of Tasmania's 68,401 km2 (26,410 sq mi) landmass around 45% of consists of reserves, national parks, and World Heritage Sites. Very few will have experienced all that is on offer in the natural wonders of Tasmania.
Year after year people from around the world flock to Tasmania to experience it's peaceful remoteness, aggressive terrain and often unfamiliar beauty. To me, this is my backyard. This is what I grew up with. I have always had a natural curiosity for what is over the fence, over the next hill, through the next town and down this dirt road.
I share my passion with my beautiful wife and our energetic children. I have a great opportunity to help them appreciate the magic of nature, the magnificence of the coast line to the appeal of the deep forests and to appreciate the history that made Tasmania what it is today.
You would think that having grown up on an island that I would have seen almost all of what is on offer. I do not believe that is it possible for anyone to claim that they have seen all that Tasmania has to offer. There are so many hidden gems that only the locals know about, and often keep to themselves. I have come to appreciate that in Tasmania the more you look, the more you find.
Five years ago my family relocated to the town of St Helens. St Helens was my dream place to live. It was close to the beach, far away, yet close enough to a major centre and a great place to explore. I thought that I would be able to see all that was on offer in just a couple of years. Five years on and I have quickly realised that I have only just touched the surface.
This is when Tasmanian Wilderness Walks came to life. I wanted to be able to share my experiences with others. I wanted others to see what I have been able to see. I want to take others on the journey with me. I trust that you will enjoy as I continue to add to the history of my exploration of this breathtaking island.
